How we handle your child’s data
What is BY Level?
Beyond Young teaches Math and Reading & Writing as two ladders of ten levels each. Your child has a separate level in each subject, set by readiness, not by grade. The placement quest below finds where to start. See every level and what it covers.

One for math and one for reading & writing, on a 10-level ladder, with a plain-words name for each level.

A private link
Your report lives at a private link only you have. Share it with a teacher or keep it for later.
Privacy, in plain words
What we keep
- Your child’s first name (and a last initial if you choose) and grade.
- The answers, and the writing sample.
- The date.
- Only if you choose (at the end of the report): a parent or guardian email, so we can send you the PDF. It is stored separately from your child’s answers. If you also tick the second box, Beyond Young’s team may contact you about classes. If you do not tick it, we do not.
What we never ask for or store
- A phone number, or an email address from your child. (The optional parent email above is the only email we take, and only from a parent or guardian.)
- A last name, home address or school name.
- Your IP address, or details about your phone or computer.
How long, and how to delete
- We keep a result for 12 months, then it is deleted. If you gave us an email, we keep it for the same 12 months.
- Press “Delete this result” on your result link any time. It also deletes the email and the writing review.

Who sees it
- You, through your private link.
- Beyond Young teachers and office staff who sign in. A teacher sees a short AI-written summary of the writing sample (with your child’s name replaced by “the student”) and confirms it.
- Only BY administrators see parent emails, and only those who ticked the “contact me about classes” box count as sales contacts.
- No ads, no analytics, no third-party trackers.
A parent should be with any child under 13. This page saves a small cookie on your device for 30 days so you can resume and so brothers and sisters on one device keep separate results.
Questions families ask
Does my child need to be good at this?
No. The quest adjusts to every answer, so it starts near your child's grade and moves up or down. There is no clock, and no answer is marked wrong on the screen. A hard question is information for us, not a grade.
What grades is it for?
PreK through Grade 12. Younger children get a Listen button that reads the question out loud, and pictures to count.
Should a parent sit with my child?
Yes, for any child under 13. A grown-up can also type for a young writer while the child says the words.
Can my child take it again?
Yes. If the same child retakes it within 30 days on the same device, we ask you to confirm first, because a quick second try often just shows the first try's memory. Both results are kept so our teachers can see progress.
Is this a test that decides anything?
No. It suggests a starting level. A BY teacher confirms it in a trial class with a short read-aloud and a look at the writing, and our office confirms class availability.
Can I stop and come back?
Yes. Every answer is saved as you go. On the same device, pick your child's name on the start page and continue where you left off.
How do I delete my child's result?
Open your result link and press "Delete this result". That also removes the email address if you gave one. Or email office@beyondyoung.org and we will do it for you.
Do you need my email?
No. The quest and the report on the screen need no email. At the end of the report you can choose to enter a parent or guardian email to get the full report as a PDF. You can leave the second box ("Beyond Young's team may contact me about classes") unticked and still get the PDF.
What about the path to the next level and the times?
They are typical, estimated ranges based on one or two BY classes a week, not promises. A BY teacher confirms the path after the trial class.
